Your Fall Apartment Moving Checklist for Thorold

Fall is a smart time to move. The weather is cooler, movers are easier to book than in the summer rush, and you get settled before winter arrives. A good apartment moving checklist keeps the week from turning into a scramble. Here’s the one we share with new Parkside Living residents.

Four to six weeks before

  • Give notice at your current place. In Ontario, tenants on a monthly lease usually need to give 60 days’ written notice, so start this step even earlier if you can. Check your lease for the exact terms.
  • Book your movers or truck. Weekends at the end of the month fill up first.
  • Measure your furniture. Our 2 bedroom suites are around 1,000 sq ft, but it’s still worth checking that the big pieces fit where you want them.
  • Start sorting. Donate or sell what you won’t bring. Fewer boxes means a faster, cheaper move.

Two to three weeks before

  • Set up internet. Bell and Cogeco both service the building. Book your install early, since tech appointments can take a week or more.
  • Set up hydro and water. At Parkside, hydro and water are billed through Carma. Our team will send you the details when you sign.
  • Book the elevator. Parkside residents book a 2.5-hour move-in window between 8 am and 6 pm. Earlier slots tend to go first, so book as soon as you know your date.
  • Arrange parking. Parking is available from $50 a month for one spot. Let us know if you need a second spot.

The week of your move

  • Update your address with Canada Post, your bank, CRA, your employer and Service Ontario for your driver’s licence.
  • Pack an essentials box: chargers, toilet paper, a kettle, snacks, basic tools and a change of clothes.
  • Confirm times with your movers and double-check your elevator booking.
  • Take photos of your old unit when it’s empty, for your records.

Moving day

  • Use the front entrance. Move-ins at Parkside go through the front door, and the elevator is padded to protect your furniture.
  • Do a walkthrough of your new suite with our team before you unload.
  • Test the basics: in-suite laundry, thermostat, taps and lights.
  • Find your parcel locker. Deliveries go to the secure locker in the vestibule, so your online orders are safe from day one.

After you settle in

Take a walk around the neighbourhood. McMillan Park is right next door, and the St. Catharines GO Station and Hwy 406 are only minutes away. If you’re still in the planning stage, read our tips on planning your 2026 move and why so many people choose condo living without the commitment.
